Today I schmoozed my way into getting one of the electrical engineers at work to come along with me to Jaycar.
After discussion, experimentation and testing current levels for my potential arduino/IR sensor/nitinol circuit, the conclusion was that it the arduino itself was proving problematic, and that it would be easier to use a Jaycar light relay kit.
